Player Redesign
Redesigning video player experience for consistency across all platforms

Business Context
The player experience was fragmented across multiple platforms, leading to inconsistent usability and brand perception. While alignment had been discussed for several months, a new feature request created the strategic opportunity to initiate a full redesign and establish consistency.
My Role
Product Designer
Platforms
Impact
Enhanced consistency and simplified the rollout of new features across all platforms
Team
2 Designers, 1 Researcher, 7 Devs, 1 QA, 1 PM
The Problem
Fragmented player design across platforms created user confusion with live vs replay functionality, inconsistent time displays, and varying scrubbing behaviors. Users struggled with navigation during live sports events, impacting viewing time and satisfaction.
Key Pain Points
- Inconsistent control placement across iOS, Android, Web, and TV
- Confusing live vs replay indicators
- Varying scrubbing behaviors causing user frustration
- Poor accessibility compliance
- Weak brand presence in player interface
My Responsibilities
Led end-to-end design from user research to developer handoff.
Facilitated cross-functional workshops with design, development, and QA teams.
Conducted user interviews and usability testing across all platforms.
Created unified design system components and interaction patterns.
Collaborated with engineering teams to ensure feasible implementation.
Design Process
10 user interviews in 2 rounds (initial audit + concept validation)
Competitive research and platform-specific constraint mapping.
Cross-team workshops to investigate the inconsistencies and explore possible solutions.
Wireframes, prototypes, and design system updates.
Key Design Decisions
Unified control placement across all platforms while respecting platform conventions.
Improved live event indicators with clear visual hierarchy.
Streamlined scrubbing interactions for better accessibility.
Enhanced brand presence through consistent visual treatment.
